Deep Spark Editing
Your story matters. Let me help you share it with the world!
Hi, I'm Jaci!
I have loved writing and stories my entire life. Along with my bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Hartford, I also studied an English minor, so I had an excuse to take creative writing classes! I’ve also taken a writing course from the Mark Twain House in Hartford, Connecticut, so I know the ins and outs of creative writing. Last year, I received my copyediting certificate from UCSD Extended Studies so I could confidently begin my journey into freelance editing. I am also a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association.I love all types and genres of writing, but I have a specific passion for speculative fiction; that is, stories that fit into the genres of sci-fi, fantasy, and horror, and stories that don’t quite fit those genres but take inspiration from them or do new and interesting things with them. I love vivid fantasy, thoughtful sci-fi, chilling horror, and any story set in our reality that bend our understand of what that reality is.When it comes to editing, I feel strongly that writing is an art, and while there are “rules” to follow, I love seeing writers bend and break the rules to satisfying and poignant ends. Knowing grammar and punctuation is only part the job; as an editor, it's also my job to understand your story and style and help make it shine. I want your story to be the best it can be, and I'm here to help make that happen! If this sounds good to you, I’d love to work with you!
My Editing Services
There are many different types of editing that are useful at different stages in your manuscript. Here are the types that I currently offer:
Copyediting: Checking for consistency and clarity in punctuation, spelling, capitalization, grammar, and syntax. A heavier copyedit will also help with revisions to wordy or clunky text that could use some extra care. This type of editing takes place after developmental (or substantive) editing and line editing and before a manuscript is ready for publication.
Proofreading: A final check for any blatant punctuation, spelling, and capitalization issues. This is done after the manuscript is formatted for print or ebook to ensure no errors were introduced or missed in the previous stages.
Pricing and Samples:
Everyone’s manuscript is different, and some need more TLC than others. I calculate my rates for each manuscript based on the length (word count) and the type of editing that is requested. I’ll send you an estimate of the cost and time needed for your edit before I begin editing.
My rates currently start at $0.01 per word for copyediting and $0.006 per word for proofreading.
I am happy to do a sample edit of a small section (generally 500-1000 words) of your manuscript so you will know if my editing is right for you. This will also let me assess how deep of an edit you may need and how long it’ll take to complete.
If you'd like more details about what an edit of your manuscript may cost or want a free sample, please feel free to contact me!
